A selection of photographs made for MEWS Gallery in Brooklyn, NY.
From the curator:
Effervescence (2025) at MEWS explores ephemerality, the power of the unseen, assigning value to the invisible, and the passage of time. A critique on contemporary white box spaces that are static and that prioritize art that exists within a vacuum of aesthetic value but also an ethos that often is exploitative of ideas, labor and equity … centered around capital and material gain.
This show hopes to challenge and confront this version of reality, questioning how we value art and art making in this material world. How do we assign value to art and why? What are the constructs that exist and what are the constructs we want to challenge and dismantle with this collection of works?
Artists: Ming Chen, Guarionex Rodriguez Jr., Shannon Lai, Elijah Anderson, Phoebe Tran, Agnes Lin, Lily Saporta Consuelo Tagiuri, Shawna X. Documentation and storytelling: Daedalus Li, Russell Low.
