How does presence take form?
What does it mean to really understand place?
These are the questions I ask myself while I sit on the train, heading home after another long day of photographing on the street. Moment to moment, I’m not really sure what I’ll find - a surprise conversation, an unlikely shadow, a partial face.
Editing my work brings new questions to the surface. Can patterns of shared expression and body language reveal something deeper about a place, or have I just slowed down as an observer? What is gained from composing the nuances of strangers? Maybe it’s recognizing an unlikely intimacy, maybe it’s just an obsession.
This project has been a natural progression of my interests in book making and engaging photography outside of a screen. Like the physicality behind making the photos, I have made the intentional choice of releasing this work in a hand made, printed format.
